"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light." -Plato
This quote fascinates me and can reluctantly be found true. As children learn, they overcome trivial, but valid fears of going to sleep at night in the dark. I know that I used to be scared of the dark, I always imagined that there was something that I could never see but was surely lurking inside. Over time I grew out of this fear, and I'm assuming many other people have too.
Men are more mature than children. Nothing short from obvious. But why do men seem to hide in the dark being emphatically afraid of stepping out into the light? Men are discontent to show who they really are and for that very reason, children are afraid to sought out who is looming in the shadows. The men are scared of the children seeing who they really are.
The men are hiding. A mere silhouette in front of the backdrop. Too cruel to be kind, too unforgiving to be forgiven, too scared to be sound. They are aghast at the sight of accepting who they are, so they refuse themselves and become withdrawn from society.
It can be difficult to accept yourself (men), then to accept society (children), but once you do, the fear is overcome. Just like children and their aphotic fears. The light is always the safer place.

Insightful post ... yet again Chris,
It would be difficult to challenge that 'men' (ourselves) are afraid /scared of 'children' (people/society) is the greatest fear in a person’s life. You argued your evidence in an intellectual matter to suggest that they are. As per usual, you gave your small opinion before referring to some advice.
Maybe there is a reason why some ‘men’ hide themselves in the shadows; Secrets, Respect (lack there of), Guilt, Suffering etc
your blog fascinaties me lol =D
i agree totally.. i used to be terrified of the dark.. ever since i hurt myself really bad but i wasn't scared of veing hurt.. it was the tiger under the bed that was going to eat me, then as i got older the serial killer who was going to kill me
I think i was very self important I mean what tiger would veiw me as a good meal, or serial killer a person of interest lol?
but onto the more main part.. i'll stop discussing my irrational fears!
"They are aghast at the sight of accepting who they are,"
ToTally!
i think its a fear of everyone else seeing them for what they are - and them having to accept their flaws..
In daylight, everything is so incredibly (scarily, sometimes) visible.. it is a little daunting to step out every single day.. especially when you have things to hide.
but i defiitely agree with you last line:
"It can be difficult to accept yourself (men), then to accept society (children), but once you do, the fear is overcome. ...The light is always the safer place."
no matter how we cover our tracks.. lies we tell.. how we hide.. the truth comes out in the end.. if you are in the light to begin with the extra hurt can be eradicated.
anyways. enough of me saying exactly what you said
wonderful post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
=D steph
